Rabbi Dr Benjamin Elton
Rabbi Dr. Benjamin Elton is Chief Minister (Senior Rabbi) of The Great Synagogue in Sydney. He was educated at Cambridge and London universities, is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and an Honorary Associate of the Department of Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney. He studied for semicha at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, and additionally received semicha from Rabbis in the UK, Israel, and America.
He is a scholar of Anglo-Jewish and Australian Jewish history, and has published on the British Chief Rabbinate (he is the author of Chief Rabbis and the Religious Character of Anglo-Jewry, 1880-1970), major themes in Anglo-Jewish religious history, and Rabbi Dr Israel Porush.
He is the Orthodox Rabbinical Consultant to the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies and the Executive Council of Australian Jewry. Ben is married to Hinda and they have three children.
