Welcome to the Covenant & Conversation essays for the Hebrew year 5787, where every parsha is expounded upon through essays of meaning and depth, written by Rabbi Sacks and shared with his global mailing list each week. This series began when he was Chief Rabbi, continued after established the Office of the Chief Rabbi, and we aim to keep sharing these pieces as long as readers wish to receive them.

Each essay contains a depth and breadth of knowledge that only Rabbi Sacks could have found within the weekly parsha. They articulate profound ideas within the Torah, applying them to the modern world, linking these ancient philosophies to ethics, psychology, anthropology, game theory, politics, economics, and other branches of philosophic studies.

In the Hebrew year 5787 (September 2026 until September 2027) we are re-sharing the Covenant & Conversation essays written by Rabbi Sacks for the year 5768 (2007-2008).

These timeless messages are followed by a short Family Edition (2026-2027) newly published to inspire intergenerational learning, although unlike previous years, the Family Edition this year is not directly connected the the C&C message of 5787, but instead to the overarching parsha, and therefore it can be read alongside any C&C essay that you choose.
