Three Bible Categories
“Jewish tradition divide[s] the books of the Bible into three categories: Torah; Nevi’im, the prophets; and Ketuvim, the writings. What makes them different is not their subject matter but their relative holiness, their relationship to God. To put it at its simplest: Torah is the word of God to man. The prophetic books are the words of God through man. The other writings are the words of man to God.”
