Asarah B'Tevet

Fast of Tevet

“Asarah B’Tevet, the 10th of Tevet, is the first of three fasts in the Jewish calendar that chart the traumatic event of the Destruction of the First Temple. It marks the beginning of the Babylonian siege under Nebuchadnezzar, and obviously it’s a very sad day that was observed even in biblical times as a fast day.” — Rabbi Jonathan Sacks
