The following article, adapted from the Chief Rabbi's 'Millenium Lecture' given to the Manchester Business School, contrasts two separate approaches to society and its institutions. Passionately concerned with the spiritual dimension of society and the strengthening or family: and community bonds in order to counter the erosion of civil society and its institutions, the Chief Rabbi was described in a recent newspaper editorial as possessing 'a very clear sense of moral reasoning', and as one who 'can really explain the difference between right and wrong'.
