Julia Chain has served as Chair of the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority, the UK’s fertility regulator, since April 2021, following over 30 years of experience in legal and management roles in both private practice and industry.

She was previously Deputy Chair of Norwood and has been a trustee of several other charities. Her past roles also include Deputy Chair of the Commission for Racial Equality and non-executive director of Frontier Economics Ltd. Julia was a founding governor of both Naima JPS and Rimon Jewish Primary School and a trustee of the Jewish Academy Trust.

In her most recent executive role, Julia was UK Managing Director and International VP of Advanced Discovery Inc., a global corporation specialising in E-Discovery and Risk Management. A qualified lawyer, she began her career at Shearman & Sterling in New York and Herbert Smith in London before joining Andersen Legal, where she became the first woman managing partner of a top 100 law firm. She later joined the board of T-Mobile UK (now EE) as General Counsel and went on to found one of the UK's first legal change management consultancies.
